# Don’t be too sure you’re able to solve this math problem – many wiseacres get it wrong

**It’s been a long time since you went to school – and for every year that goes by, the time where you used to sit down at your desk, doing assignments and math problems, drifts further and further away.**

**Going to school was difficult growing up, but oh how important it was. You learned to read, write, and plenty of other useful skills.**

**With math, however, it’s a bit different. The advanced formulas, techniques, and order of operation are harder to remember if you don’t use them often.**

**Of course, we use basic math for everything, but how much do you actually remember from those slightly longer, complex calculations you had no problem solving when you were younger?**

The older you get, the more important it is to take care of yourself. Regular exercise and a good diet are always a must, but the fact is that it’s also important to keep your brain healthy.

A good way to keep the mind sharp is by solving some brainteasers. Perhaps the most common are crosswords or sudoku – but neither is better nor worse than the other.

## Can you solve the equation?

Something else that puts everything inside the head to work is a challenging math equation. On the web, you can find plenty of problems to solve – with different difficulties.

You can test yourself and find out how much you actually remember while healthily exercising your mind, a win-win situation!

Here comes today’s challenge!

The picture below shows a problem taken out of a school book, however, everyone online is tearing their hair out trying to find the solution. There’s only one rule – you can’t use calculators.

**Here’s the problem! What do you think is the answer?**

Don’t stress, look closely and try to figure out how to get the right solution.

Below the next picture, we’ll show you the answer.

**The correct answer is 104.**

## Always start with the multiplication

How did we end up with that solution?

First, you calculate the multiplication 25 x 0, which of course becomes 0. This is one of the basic rules of mathematics.

Then we have: 50 + 50 – 0 + 2 + 2, which results in 104.

So the important detail, to get to the right answer, is to start with the multiplication. Otherwise, things get messy.
